日治時期光明新村是日本海軍第六燃料廠的軍官宿舍,二戰後延續為天然瓦斯研究所、中油新竹研究所、經濟部聯合工業研究所及工研院的宿舍區。光明新村位於新竹市東區,隔成功湖與清華大學相鄰;村內建物低密度配置、大樹林立,呈現綠意盎然的景觀,是都市裡少見綠覆率極高的社區。村內成功湖畔老舊宿舍群已有半個世紀以上的歷史,本規劃將老建築適度整修,以中軸綠茵步道連結,並以落地窗結合室內外空間,回復建物外觀、保留老樹,並搭配景觀設計串聯湖畔綠地和中央草地,形成可舉辦各式活動的場域。環境優化至今3年,不僅高達7萬人次造訪舉辦各式組織促動、同仁福利、鏈結鄰里相關活動,成為同仁及鄰里樂於造訪的活動場所,同時亦符合工研院永續發展之目標。

Industrial Technology Research Institute ITRI Guangming New Village is located in the East District of Hsinchu City, adjacent to National Tsing Hua University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. The park is densely shaded with low-density, low-floor wooden buildings and is adjacent to Chenggong Lake. ITRI ​​Guangming New Village was originally a dormitory area for senior staff of the Japanese Navy's Sixth Fuel Plant. After the war, it was handed over to ITRI as a residential area for senior managers. It is now a dormitory for more than 200 ITRI supervisors and colleagues, including the excellently operated Guangming Kindergarten, with a good and complete ecological environment and public facilities, which can continue the lake landscape and green environmental landscape of Hsinchu City.
 

The original dormitory complex of Lakeview Greenery is currently the most important core building complex in the campus in terms of building scale and landscape space scale. In the future, through the site investigation and structural reinforcement of the building, the building and indoor space will be transformed, and through the building remodel of the openings connects the outdoor green lawn landscape, creating the possibility of extending the indoor space to the outdoor green space. Through outdoor coffee lounges and cultural salons, it increases the possibility of outdoor activities and use, and can activate the original some dormitory groups extend to the lakeside. The landscape art nearby the lake area relink the outdoor spaces. In the future, this area will also become the most dynamic and event  area in the campus. The indoor space can also be transformed into a small conference in the backyard in the future. It can be used as a display or workshop classroom to increase future usability and features.
